It is with great pleasure that I invite you, on behalf of the Higher Committee of the Zayed International Prize for the Environment, to nominate individuals, companies, institutions and organizations for the Zayed Prize.
With unwavering support of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates – Ruler of Dubai– Founder and Patron of Zayed Prize, the Zayed International Prize for the Environment, has been working hard for the past years to promote sustainable development through various environmental initiatives. The prestigious Prize has been awarded in recognition of global leadership, scientific achievements and environmental achievements that have direct impact on the community.
Moreover, three international conferences on Desertification (2000), Integrated Water Resources Management (2002) and Atmospheric Pollution (2004) were organized and declarations were adopted by regional and international organizations to serve humanity. Forums on specific environmental issues, workshops, and training seminars were conducted, in addition to environmental awareness efforts through public lectures, school activities and exhibitions.
In collaboration with the World Deserts Foundation, the Zayed Prize hosted the "Second Festival of the Cultures and Civilizations of the World Deserts" and associated events in Dubai from 16 to 22 April 2004. In 2006, the Zayed Prize hosted the 9th Special Session of the UNEP Governing Council (GCSS)/The Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GMEF), 7-9 February 2006 and associated events including The International Conference on Chemicals Management – "Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)" , 4-6 February, and the 7th Global Civil Society Forum (GCSF), 4 -5 February.
The Zayed Prize is honored to bear the name of the man who dedicated his life for environmental protection and sustainable development. Those nominated for this Prize should represent the spirit of this environmentalist, H. H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who for more than 50 years, fought to ensure that the environment in the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf region and around the world is safeguarded for future generations.
We hope that his vision will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who live in the UAE and all those who receive the Prize, which bears his name.
